My Story
Marlon is a Licensed Master of Social Work with specializations in children and youth, and addictive disorders. In adolescence and early adulthood Marlon faced personal challenges with addiction. He has been in recovery for over 20 years and pursued social work as a profession so he could help other people overcome adversity. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 2014. While obtaining his undergraduate degree, he worked as an admissions specialist at a substance abuse treatment center. He received his Master of Social Work Degree from Louisiana State University in 2016 with a specialization of working with children and youth. Marlon completed internships providing therapy for individuals and families at The Family Tree Clinic and worked with survivors of sexual trauma at Hearts of Hope. Following graduation, Marlon worked as a crisis counselor and then went on to become a therapist at New Beginnings Adolescent Recovery Center. During his time at New Beginnings, Marlon provided therapy for adolescents and families who had been affected by addiction, trauma, and mental health disorders. Marlon then became a therapist at Oceans Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program where he provided mental health treatment to adults with a spectrum of mental health disorders. Marlon is passionate about helping empower people from diverse backgrounds and is allied with the LGBTQ community and minority cultures.
